Can the Wii be a gamers only console?

Now before I start I must state exactly what I believe a gamer is. Your definition can differ, I don't care. I believe a gamer is somebody who plays video games on a regular basis for their enjoyment. They don't necessarily play JRPS or heavy turned-base strategy games, instead they just believe that gaming is a more important past-time than other activities. After saying that my question is simple, ''Can the Wii be a gamers only console?'' What that means is can the Wii solely satisfy a gamers wants in video games. Now of course this highly depends on the kinds of games that each individual gamer enjoys. That point aside, I believe that the average gamer's needs are not fulfilled by the Wii.*Note to all: I do not use pretty pictures to keep your attention, so keep reading*I believe that the Wii cannot provided the same satisfaction as a Xbox 360 or a PS3 on several levels. First being game selection, second being multiplayer, and third being features and hardware. This gen the Wii has been failing to provide its customers with the same type and quality of games. While PS3 and 360 owners are enjoying the latest versions of popular titles like Madden and Grand Theft Auto, Wii owners are left with ports from last gen as well as a handful of exclusives. Exclusives on the PS3 and 360 aside, their multiplatform libraries are still more robust and complete than that of the Wii. I am not talking in terms of number of AA and AAA games, rather the general number of quality titles that span all of the genres. For example on the PS3 and the 360 you have a load of action games ranging from first person shooters like Call of Duty 4 and Battlefield Bad Company to third person action games like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Assassins Creed. All of these games are great (8.0+) games that cover the action fan. The PS3 and 360 also have a host of RPGs such as Oblivion or the upcoming Fallout 3 as well as many of their own exclusives like Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, and the Folklore. We can also look at sports titles. While the Wii has the basics they are not nearly as complete or as deep as the sports titles on the PS3 and 360. Look at Madden for example. On the PS3 and 360 there is a very comprehensive version while the Wii gets a weaker experience.Sure the Wii does have a host of great AA games, but many of these are ports from last gen that many gamers have enjoyed already. Its number of exclusives cannot make up for the lack of the amazing multiplats like Bioshock, Burnout Paradise, or The Orange Box that are on both the PS3 and 360. Next the Wii really falls short with its online capabilities. Online is implemented very poorly into its games. Most games do not have much online features and games that do suffer from poor organization/implementation and voice chat. Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a prime example as the lack of voice comms really hampers the entire experience along with the lag in 4 player matches. The PS3 and 360 both feature extremely well built online modes that are very user friendly and well implemented into the console and the games. This makes playing online with friends much more enjoyable and easy for the more casual gamer as well as really brings out the life of games making that $60 investment worth every penny.Last the Wii really fails to deliver on a hardware perspective. Keeping up with the Jones's really applies to this situation. Sure graphics don't make the game, but nobody will deny that they can make an already great game even better. While gamers on the PS3 and 360 are enjoy HD graphics with new lighting techniques, advanced physics, incredible textures, and high polygon objects, Wii owners are stuck in last gen with graphics that bearly top that of the Xbox. In the end this is kind of important to gamers especially when fellow gamers get to enjoy graphical wonders like MGS4, Uncharted, and Gears of War. Along with lower graphics the Wii really fails in its multimedia. The console does not have DVD playback nor does it allow for storage of media onto the memory of the system. Gamers who are playing on the PS3 and 360 can play music (or stream it from their PC) during games or when they are not playing games. Gamers on the PS3 and 360 can also use their consoles to watch movies either from a disk format (Blu-Ray or DVD), stream or download from the internet, or off of external drives and PCs. Theses multimedia features really make the PS3 and 360 much more versatile than the Wii.The Wii itself is a great system for a very nice price. It is great for people who enjoy older Nintendo games or like a very simple pick-up-and-play style of gaming. Even with this, I do not believe that the Wii can be a gamers only console, for the reasons stated above, and that is why I believe that Nintendo has really dropped the ball this generation. Can the Wii be a gamers only console?
I don't think i can live with just one console this gen anyway. Can the Wii be a gamers only console?
nope. You have to have something else unless that is all you can afford.
You make it sound like the Wii has alot of last-gen ports when really all I can think of is Okami and RE4. Whats the big issue?
You make it sound like the Wii has alot of last-gen ports when really all I can think of is Okami and RE4. Whats the big issue?
Well there are two of its ''great'' games and there aren't that many to start off with.
Thats it, im done with this site.
Yes, it can, I'm a gamer since the late 70's early 80's and the Wii is providing me with all the gaming needs I want.

I am just pointing out that two of those ports are what Wii fans typically believe to be ''big'' games on the Wii.
Depends on your financial situation. Not everyone is rich enough to have a monster PC as well as all three consoles. I'd wager that most people just have one console, and if they choose that console to be the Wii then why are you judging them?

I am just saying that I don't believe a Wii can satisfy a gamers needs without leaving them a bit dissapointed and wanting more.
Same thing can be said about any console this gen or the PC. Why would anyone be happy with just one system? You would be missing out either way.
