Ohhh noes, the PC is dead. :PSeriously, this is pretty interesting and quite the contrary, PC games are thriving ?The Story.NPD Compares PC Sales to Console Best-sellersby Blake Ellison Oct 16, 2008 7:40pm CST tags: Software Sales, NPD, Console Sales, PC Sales Today's NPD numbers left out sales for PC games, as is typical, but this month the market research firm decided to take a look at PC game sales anyway to see how they would fare. ''Although PC games sales are not included in these numbers, there were two that should be pointed out,'' wrote NPD analyst Anita Frazier in a press release accompanying September's sales data. ''Spore realized sales of 406,000 units and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning sold 274,000 which would put them both in the top 10 list of combined console, portable and PC games sales for the month,'' Frazier continued. In fact, Spore's numbers would place it squarely in third place for September, just below the explosive launch of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed(PS3, PS2, 360, Wii, DS, PSP) and perpetual best-seller Wii Fit. Warhammer Online, on the other hand, would take eighth in a combined PC-and-console sales chart. If Warhammer's sales look at odds with the 500,000players the game picked up in the days after its September 18 launch, it's because NPD only looks at United States retail sales whereas Warhammer's subscriber base is a worldwide number. This isnt much to go by tbh :SNPD Compares PC Sales to Console Best-se ...
This isnt much to go by tbh :S
Indeed.
The console games in Sept were trash......try comparing games in Oct and Nov to those sales.
So you're comparing one of the biggest, most highly anticipated PC games of all time to a month when no real good game launched on consoles? Seems pretty fair. And even with that, Spore STILL places behind Star Wars TFU.It's like comparing PC games sales to the week when GTA IV launched.
Gosh people, it's just something NPD did as sort of an experiment and reaches no real conclusion which should be something that SW would have fun discussing. I certainly made no concrete determination and only put it here for thoughts on the news article that - I Didn't Write !!
The console games in Sept were trash......try comparing games in Oct and Nov to those sales.
November WOTLK?
So you're comparing one of the biggest, most highly anticipated PC games of all time to a month when no real good game launched on consoles? That has absolutely nothing to do with anything I typed.
That has absolutely nothing to do with anything I typed.
NEither of those games being THE MOST anticipated are... indeed, part of the point.
The problem is it still doesn't take into account digital sales.Example a friend of mine brought spore from direct2drive. And i have bought loads of games off steam and gamersgate. And even at that spore comes 3rd and its on one platform unlike star wars force unleahed which is a massively hyped game.
Are you honestly saying Spore isn't one of the most anticipated PC games of the last 5 years? OK.

The console games in Sept were trash......try comparing games in Oct and Nov to those sales.
November WOTLK?
oh please, a MMOG.......that's your answer? I suppose this confirms you actually don't have a response to Spore being one of the most hyped games to come out on PC and it won't even outsell Banjo 3.
The NPD need to 'get with the times'.Digital distribution seems to be quite strong in the region. Cutting it out is like ignoring a reasonable portion of sales.
Sorry why are MMO's somehow exempt from the rule? :roll:Or the fact that this is only NA which isnt even the strongest PC market, while being the only GREAT 360 market  fair comparisons right? :roll:And no, im not denying spore is one of the most anticipated, but it isnt THE MOST.WOTLK counts, get over it. I bought my WArhammer Online off Direct2Drive and I'm BRitish, heres a clue, we dont care about NPD.... its a waste of time, this ISN NOT A US ONLY BOARD.
Also, with so many games being sold by digital distribution, PC games sales are actually doing quite good if you ask me
I strongly doubt Banjo 3 will outsell it, unless it recieves the MS mega marketing treatment - even with Spore's DRM woes.
Wrath Of the Lich King should show how many games the pc can truly sell.
Wrath Of the Lich King should show how many games the pc can truly sell.
Yea, but for some reason it doesnt count, unless its some flashy graphics whore substancless 3rd person shooter that will last 10 hours at top and have very few ''worthwhile'' game modes to justify 5 vs 5 for any REAL ammount of time.
I wonder how many PCs there are that can play Spore vs total number of Wii systems or 360 systems.
it won't even outsell Banjo 3.
? :D :D :D You can't be serious :D
