Dead Space is my GOTY

Dead Space is a shining example of how a game like this should be done. It reminds me of the older games found on PCs when you actually had to manage inventory and if you wanted more inventory slots you had to upgrade something (in this case your suit). All your weapons and stasis can be upgraded, which is a big plus in this game. Also, so many games are putting health regeneration as part of the health system. I am extremely pleased that Dead Space does not have this feature. You either have to search for health or buy it at one of the kiosks. Health regeneration takes out the panic, when you're low on health, and you have no medkits anywhere. The blood and gore in Dead Space is nothing short of spectacular. Amazing detail and effects when bodies are ripped apart, and when you die, it's pretty gruesome to watch. The sound in this game is astonishing. If you have a 5.1 surround system, your in for a real treat. The weapons all sound great especially the ripper, my favorite sound effect in the whole game. When that saw makes that sound, you can't help but grit your teeth as your rip your enemies to pieces. Pure awesome. The environment is of course a space ship, but that doesn't mean there are no incredible environments to go through. The graphics are fantastic. I'm probably going to get flamed a lot for saying this, but I think the graphics in Dead Space are better than Gears of War. Simply put the game shines with awesome lighting, amazing effects and great textures. One of the best looking games I have seen this gen.I know this might get me flamed (again), but I would put this game up there with System Shock 2. It reminded me a lot of that game, but is third person rather than first person. This game has a great sense of atmosphere. The environments and ambient sounds make for a great feeling of uneasiness while making your way through the game. My absolute favorite part of the game is how much immersion there is. Every menu you access (your inventory, logs, map) are projections from Isaac's suit, never stopping the gameplay. You never feel once that you are ''escaping'' from the game to read logs or manage your inventory. The ammo counter for your weapons is projected from the weapons themselves and not a separate meter on the screen.Everyone who owns a PS3, 360 or PC should check this game out. It is amazing and quite possibly the best survival horror (yes I said survival horror), game this gen. This game feels like a survivial horror game and I am quite pleased by that. Dead Space is my GOTY
its curently my GOTY pick but I need to wait and see how Fable 2 and Gears 2 look. Both look amazing.Dead Space is my GOTY
Everyone seems to have been taken off gaurd by Dead Space. Dead Space is a game I've had my eye on for a little while. I expected it to be good but not such an overwhelming breakout success. I'm looking foward to buying it this weekend (maybe today?). I haven't had a real enjoyable survival horror game since DOOM 3 I believe. My question to the TC though is the game genuinly scary? It may sound dumb but some people say it's not others say it'll make you crap your pants. I really think the ones who said it wasn't were just trying to sound tough but I had to ask.
I agree, Dead Space is fantastic, but I don't know about GOTY. The only negative is the pixelated %26 craptastic shadows. Everything else is absolutely marvelous.
Really? I've had my eye on Dead Space for awhile and i was going to get it until Mother 3. But i will get it when i can. BTW, Brawl is my GOTY (unless Mother 3 counts ;))

It's not the scariest game I ever played (that award goes to Silent Hill 1), but it never lets go the uneasy feeling, and sometimes a feeling of panic.
Not for me, the thing that knocks it down is the length of the game ad replay value.Im almost at chapter 7 at 3 and half hours inAnd there's no multiplayer (lazy devs) there should be some type of multiplayer

How fast are you going?? I completed the game in roughly 10 hours. But I will play it again, because you also unlock a lot of stuff after you finish the game.
Do you unlock anything besides the suit upgrades and difficulty?

yea the game has great atmosphere. It does remind me a bit of system shock 2, and even doom3 at times. I really hope the 3rd person shooter continues to make a comeback. I hate playing first person on a console(halo is the only one i liked), but 3rd person games on the console like this(and gears) are awesome and feel right with a controller. The other thing is the sound that freaks me out. Its dead quiet, and then you hear noises, just something hitting a pipe, or some movement, it gets you on edge.

I've been having big problems with Dead Space. THe game is way too easy, the guns are unbalanced, and the forced combat scenarios really detract from the thrills and chills of the game. I think the only time I've jumped is when something jumped me and started eating me as a canned animation. I'm playing on hard so he would have killed me in a milisecond. The actual gun play is way too easy.

GOTY? it's certainly one of the best game i've played this year...but i'm still waiting on the new PoP and Fable 2.
Right now I would pick it as mine too, but there is still games out there that might take its spot this year.

My top scary games are; Undying, Silent Hill 2, System Shock 2, Sanitarium, and Fatal Frame 2. (Among others) Dead Space doesn't even begin to go up there. I waited till dark to play the game, on hardest difficulty, with my sound all the way up and I never got scared. I was occasionally surprised from something, but never scared.

EDIT: I forgot Call of Cthulhu.
Dead Space is in my top 5 games of the year as of now. But I'm only 3 chapters in so I don't know how the story will progress. But the game's mechanics, atmosphere, sound, and graphics is just amazing. The gameplay is also top notch. Everything just works so well. I've also never played a game like this where every bully counts, every dollar counts, and every tick of health counts. My only small complaint is theres not enough enemy models. You fight the same ugly creatures over and over. I wish there was more diversity in that sense. Not that I care because I piss my pants regardless of the enemy.
Same here op, and thats including mgs4!
