With this generation, lots of ''exclusive'' games are becoming multiplatform, ones that were exclusive to another console before (in past generations) and others that either were announced exclusive and when multiplatform later or get a later port. * Now, I can't hide the fact. This thread does make a key point of MGS4, but it is NOT the focus, at all. Anyway, what I want to ask is why do we continuously act like, when all things point to a game going multiplatform, we still deny the possibility?
Want a list of games that were rumored with evidence to go multiplatform and did? I'm sure to be missing some, but here it is:- Unreal Tournament 3 (to the 360)- Devil May Cry 4 (to the 360)- Bioshock (to the ps3)- Assassin's Creed (to the 360)- Final Fantasy 13 (to the 360)- Tekken 6 (to the 360)- Gears of War (to the pc)- Tales of Vesperia (to the 360)- Star Ocean 4 (to only the 360)- Eternal Sonata (to the ps3)- Mass Effect (to the pc) ALL of these games had rumors and articles like theseNow comes MGS4 (keep in mind, this is not about it, it's just the next game in this series). It has had rumors about going multiplat for a while. Kojima said the company wanted to make games for multiple consoles, and if giantbomb or kotaku, or anything like that is to go by, they're ''activly looking into a release on the xbox 360'' http://www.giantbomb.com/news/were-actively-looking-into-reporting-this-metal-gear-solid-4-on-xbox-360-story/369/And then there's MGS4: Existence coming up which we have no idea of what it is. Seriously? Can we not put two and two together? I'm not trying to say ''MGS4 is going to the 360'', frankly that is not the direction of my thread. What I'm getting at is why, when all things point towards a game going mulitplatform, do we deny it? The Multiplatformication of Games
Because this is system wars, and the more exclusives on your system the better. And rumors are rumors, nothing is true until the dev says it is.The Multiplatformication of Games
UT3 and Assassin's Creed were never actually supposed to be exclusive to the PS3. I don't know why people deny the possibility, perhaps they just yearn for the glory days of the PS2, when 3rd party exclusives still existed.
Because this is system wars, and the more exclusives on your system the better. And rumors are rumors, nothing is true until the dev says it is.
The last statement is false. Was Bioshock not planned to be coming to the Ps3 until they announced it? No, it was probably planned all along.
I remember when Metal Gear Solid 3 was coming, everyone said it was also going to come to Xbox, because MGS2:Substance did. Then, when MGS3:Subsistance was announced, again, it was supposedly coming to Xbox.It never happened, for many reasons.MGS Existance, could be that port, or something else entirely, but assuming will only own one side or the other. Now let me be clear that the past doesn't dictate the future, and also that this is a much different day and age, since the PS3 is no PS2 when it comes to install base, release date, etc.My point it, maybe MGS4 is coming, or not, but assuming it is could be a mistake. The trend does point to a port though (looking at other companies decisions) to platform agnostic game development, but there also is other variables, like $$$ payoffs we aren't privy too (Both on M$ and Sony's side.).
^ I understand what you're saying SolidTy, but you also didn't have these reports coming in from all these places, the xbox was also dying, and it was really all forum speculation. Don't forget to account for the fact that the japanese are really opening up, or really open up to, the 360. Look at all the japanese games and compare it to those found on the original xbox Final Fantasy 13 is coming to the 360. This idea alone destroys all points about how a 3rd party game that is NOT published by the 1st party can't go multiplatform. Not saying it won't though. Granted though, what I'm saying with this doesn't exactly have relevance to your post. I guess I'm trying to emphasize that things are different now.

Sony doesn't care though.
